Neighbouring Bodies
An interactive sculpture that captures body parts of people and creates new virtual bodies specific to its context.
"Neighbouring Bodies is an interactive sculpture that captures body parts of people and creates new virtual bodies specific to its context."
The work virtually dissects pedestrians, stores their body parts in memory, remixes them, and generates ever-changing composite bodies unique to each installation location. It explores algorithmic body tracking and human-machine symbiosis.
Key Features
- Array of screens suspended before an abstract mannequin, creating a cyberpunk aesthetic
- Algorithm creates movement loops from captured body parts
- Displays different body parts from multiple pedestrians plus real-time captures
- First iteration: abandoned supermarket window vitrine in Gröpelingen, Bremen (October 2020)
Artistic Influences
References video creatures by Otavio Donasci and Nam June Paik's aesthetics.
